Summertime Fun Activities for Kids - In the Backyard
Olympics - Set up a series of events or obstacles courses. Only limited by your ability and imagination. Take it the extra step and arrange some medals for the awards ceremony.Practice Your Cartwheels and see how many you can do in a row
Have a Water Gun or water balloon Fight
Have a Wheelbarrow Race
Play Kick the Can - There is a can set up in an open central area. One person is "It" and all the other players go hide. The "It" person goes and looks for them and when he sees one they run back to the can. Whoever kicks the can first is not "It" and the person who didn't is.
Blueberries up Your Nose - Ok this one does sound weird but it is still pretty fun. This is a contest where you stick a blueberry up your nose and try to blast it the farhtest. The blueberry that goes the farthest (including how far it rolls) is the winner.
Play Hackeysack - good for the foot-eye coordination
Do a Headstand or try to walk on your hands
Play Hide-and-Go-Seek and if you having an annoying friend or sibling play Hide and "No" seek
Play Bocce Ball on the lawn, croquet or mini golf
Have a Bonfire and Roast Marshmallows at night
Make some adults give you Piggy Back Rides
Make crazy animal sounds and try to confuse your neighbors
Have a Scavenger Hunt
Skip Rope - add some tricks
Get as many kiddy pools as possible and whether it is kids or adults splashing about - it is going to be a good time.
Set up a hammock and crawl in with a good book
Hang a Bird Feeder so that you can watch the birds feed
Start a Herb Garden and help it grow
Play Hop Scotch and no you can't use real scotch
Silly Body Poses - Take some phots and email them to friends.
Have a Hula - Hooping Contest - see who has the best rhythm
Have a Water Fight with the Garden Hose
Play Twister
Play Paddleball
Come up with a plan to make some pocket money
Have a Limbo Contest
Have a Paper Airplane Distance Contest
Have a Talent Show
Get a Slip and Slide and try to set the record for the longest slide
Have a Play - Act out a play with costumes and make up
Karaoke and sing the hits
Cloud Evaluation - Look for shapes in the clouds
Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest
Try Stilt Walking
Get out the badminton rackets and twack the birdee around
Build a Tree House or clubhouse
Camp out overnight in the Backyard
Draw with Chalk on the Sidewalk and write compliment graffiti on the road. What is that? just write positive messages about people for the world to see
